Description

We are recruiting for the position of Ground Segment Systems Engineer for the Polish National Earth Observation (EO) Project. On all technical and programmatic matters, you will report to the Project Manager of the selected National Mission .YouYou will also coordinate with the Head of the System Support Division in the EO Project Department to ensure the use of common standards and methods, as well as access to the necessary resources and support as needed.

You will be technically responsible for the definition, development, implementation, verification, acceptance and transfer into operations of the ground segment systems, including the payload data ground segment (PDGS) and the flight operation centre. You will also support the definition and implementation of the launch and early orbit phase (LEOP) and commissioning activities.

You will support the Project Manager on all technical and programmatic aspects pertinent to your area of competence.

Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • defining, consolidating and maintaining ground segment requirements, ensuring their consistent definition and flow-down from system to subsystem and equipment level, with support from the industrial consortium;
  • supervising the ground segment definition process, ensuring the architecture is robust and that its design and interfaces will fulfil the potential evolution of the system into the scope of the project;
  • monitoring industrial activities related to the procurement of the ground segment infrastructure (operation centre and PDGS);
  • monitoring and controlling ground segment performances at system and subsystem level, ensuring requirements are met;
  • ensuring timely definition of the product and file formats and databases, simulators and procedures necessary for the preparation of mission operations;
  • supervising the definition and execution of the ground segment acceptance, verification and validation programme, in line with the overall system development schedule;
  • supporting the definition and preparation of the LEOP and commissioning activities, and coordinating their execution;
  • working with other project members and coordinating with technical specialists to ensure timely and consistent support for the end-to-end mission performance system definition, procurement and verification phases;
  • providing regular reporting and support to the Project Manager on all the relevant aspects of the ground segment design, development, procurement and scheduling;
  • identifying risks and potential problem areas, proposing mitigation actions where appropriate;
  • ensuring coordination with other National Programmes (where applicable).

Technical competencies

Solid, extensive and demonstrated experience with overall ground segment definition, development, verification and validation

Solid understanding of individual ground segment component development and data quality monitoring

Solid understanding of mission operations, including flight control and monitoring operations, payload command and control, and payload data acquisition, processing, archiving and distribution

Experience with the commissioning phase

Knowledge of software development processes and methodologies


Education

A master's in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline is required.

Additional requirements

Experience with the technical management of industrial contracts for software development would be an asset.
