Description

Electrical Engineer in the Power Management and Distribution Section, Power Systems, EMC and Space Environments Division, Electrical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality.

The Power Management and Distribution Section provides functional support to ESA projects and carries out technological research and development (R&D) in the fields of power management and distribution for space applications, both primary or secondary, platforms or payloads.

You will support the LISA (Laser Interferometer Space Antenna) Project, in the Projects Department of the Science Directorate. As a part of the Payload Team, you will report to the LISA Payload System Lead. LISA is a mission comprising a constellation of three spacecrafts tasked with detecting and measuring gravitational waves with precision. It will become the first ever space gravitational wave observatory that will deliver world-class science and with a significant public and strategic impact.

As Electrical Engineer, you will have the responsibility to support the Payload Team during the entire development, from the design to the on-orbit commissioning, for all the electrical aspects relevant to the LISA Payload, both at system and subsystem level.
In this role you will also act as technical interface with the spacecraft for all the electrical aspects of the LISA payload and its subsystems.
To accomplish your duties, you will be provided with the support of experts within the LISA Project Team and from the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality.

Duties

Your tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the Payload Team in all the electrical aspects of the LISA payload, both at system and subsystem level;
  • Controlling and supervising the electrical payload development, from its design to its on-orbit commissioning completion, with a particular emphasis on the electrical interfaces between units;
  • Review of electrical schematics, with particular focus on SPF and protections.
  • Review of the payload power conversion schematics, payload power system analysis, including power and energy budget;
  • Review of WCA, FMEA, PSA from the Payload partners, including active support to write these documents;
  • Coordinating and interfacing with the spacecraft for all the electrical aspects concerning the LISA payload;
  • Supporting the LISA Project Team for other elements of the spacecraft
  • Supporting all the relevant and necessary reviews;
  • Providing support to the Projects Department when needed and requested.
  • Ensuring the capture and transfer of knowledge and lessons learned across the matrix organisation.
  • Monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends and maintaining a state-of-the-art expertise;
  • Contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency.

Technical competencies

Strong technical background with specific and proven experience in the technical domains covered by the position

Ability to use simulation tools (pspice/LTspice simulation)

Background and experience in power conversion

Experience in managing and monitoring industrial activities


Education

A master's in engineering or physics is required.

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
